Latvian Interior Ministry to sign contracts worth EUR 30 mln in order to provide police with automobiles

BC, Riga, 03.03.2015.Print version
The government of Latvia today authorized the Ministry of the Interior to assume long-term liabilities in the 2016-2022 period, in the amount of up to EUR 29,701,170, in order to provide the State Police with leased vehicles, writes LETA.

The government decided accordingly that the Interior Ministry's spending projection will be increased by the said amount in bills and legislation concerning the state budget for 2016 and medium-term budget framework for 2016-2018.

Forty automobiles were bought for the State Police recently so the police could perform their functions in full during Latvia's Presidency at the Council of the European Union. However, the police's total number of vehicles has not increased as the new vehicles replaced old ones that were written off, explains the Interior Ministry.

In 2011 and 2012, the State Police signed four agreements on lease of vehicles. The agreements, which cover the lease of 627 vehicles of the State Police, will expire in 2016 and 2017.

The companies from which the State Police lease their vehicles will be selected through procurement tenders, agreements with these companies will be signed for the period from 2016 to 2022.

In order to sign the new lease agreements, the Interior Ministry required the Cabinet of Minister's authorization.
