Moller to appeal Competition Council's decision in Latvia
Taking into account that the group's companies have not hindered or limited competition in any way, and that Volkswagen buyers have not suffered any losses due to the group's activities, the situation described by the Competition Council does not classify as violation of antitrust laws, Ruza said.
After assessing the circumstances of the case, Moller Group companies in Latvia decided to contest the Competition Council's conclusions and will appeal them in court. Moller Group companies have caused no harm to any of their clients, and their interests have not been violated.
An independent expert, economist, and CEO of the Baltic International Center for Economic Policy Studies, Alfs Vanags said that in this case, prices were not fixed. Furthermore, availability of various different automobile brands was not restricted in any way, and competition of brands in terms of prices and quality has always been tough.
Vanags also said that other potential players were not restricted from entering the market either. Furthermore, the expert says that Moller Group companies acted in their clients' interests as clients were able to receive best offers in terms of price and quality.
