20 hotels prepared to quarantine residents who test positive for Covid-19 in Latvia

There are around twenty hospitals that would be prepared to quarantine residents who test positive for Covid-19 if this service is paid for by the state, as Santa Graikste, head of the Hotel and Restaurant Association, told LETA.

The Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's proposal that persons who test positive for Covid-19 could self-isolate in hotels was submitted to the health minister this past spring, said Graikste. The Hotel and Restaurant Association is pleased that the minister has finally taken the suggestion into account.

Hotels are currently also considering accommodation for Covid-19 patients, but in this case it is necessary to ensure that the service fee covers the cost of the service, as hotels will have to provide a number of additional security measures, including cleaning the rooms after a Covid-19 patient checks out, which is more expensive than in a normal situation, said Graikste.

The cost of staying in a hotel depends on how many stars the hotel has and the range of services it offers, added Graikste.

As reported, Vinkele has called on the government to consider state-funded hotels for those who need to self-isolate because of Covid-19, the minister wrote on Twitter. The minister also believes that the state must provide support to employers by paying for employees' sick-leaves starting from day one, so that people did not go to work despite symptoms of illness.
