460 tourists from Latvia stranded in Egypt
airBaltic Vice President Janis Vanags told a press conference today that all these tourists could be brought home on two flights as soon as such flights are granted permission.
At the moment, airBaltic is not flying to Sharm el-Sheikh, waiting for the green light from the authorities. The decision whether the airline may operate flights to Egypt will be taken at a meeting of the Civil Aviation Agency later today.
If the Civil Aviation Agency's decision is positive, airBaltic will be ready to fly to Sharm el-Sheikh already tomorrow. At the moment, stranded tourists from Latvia live in hotels; the accommodation cost will be covered by airBaltic and tour operator Tez Tour.
As reported, airBaltic suspended flights to Sharm el-Sheikh yesterday following a Russian plane crash on the Sinai peninsula, killing all 224 people on board in what may have been a bomb attack.
