According to Puntulis, the government's decision put an end to discussions that had continued since the end of the 1980s. If such lengthy discussions will continue now, the new concert hall will never be built.

"I have a positive opinion of the concert hall's idea, and it is clear that we will move on. I am supported by the outstanding music industry of Latvia, artists who trust me," said Puntulis, explaining that he could not let these people down.

He believes that the main task at the moment is to build the concert hall, not to tear the existing building down, because the old building could be integrated into the new one. That is why a meeting of architects will be organized in August or September to discuss different solutions and agree upon the best one, said Puntulis.

As reported, the government has approved construction of the National Concert Hall at 2 Elizabetes Street in Riga.

Some twenty architects later turned to the State Inspection for Heritage Protection, demanding that the building at 2 Elizabetes Street in Riga be designated a cultural monument.
