Lithuanian PM meets with representatives of American-Lithuanian Business Council

During his visit to the United States, Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius on Monday met with President of the American Lithuanian Business Council Eric Stewart and other representatives of the organization, informs LETA/ELTA.

The meeting discussed the strategic partnership of the United States and Lithuania, economic relations, investment opportunities and issues of new export markets.

 

"I am very pleased to see such dynamics in the bilateral economic relations as such US giants as Western Union, Philip Morris, Strategic Staffing Solutions, Thermo Fisher Scientific, among others, have chosen Lithuania for their investment," the PM said and stressed that foreign investment promotion is one of the priority goals.

 

Butkevicius also pointed out that as Lithuanian will be joining the euro zone as of 2015 it will allow the country's economy to gain even more strength.

 

The PM highlighted that Lithuania is closely following the EU-US negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

 

During the prime minister's visit, much attention is going be devoted for new markets and investment, as well as strengthening of the scientific cooperation between the two countries. During a visit, a cooperation agreement between Lithuania and NASA, and an agreement on the foundation of a private clinic of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Vilnius will be signed. Butkevicius will also announce the opening of the Consulate-General of Lithuania in the City of Los Angeles.
