Ir: Liepajas metalurgs investors haunted by scandals and lawsuits

BC, Riga, 18.09.2014.Print version
Liepajas metalurgs investors are haunted by scandals and lawsuits, the Latvian magazine "Ir" reports, cites LETA/Nozare.lv.

This concerns several KVV Group projects in Sevastopol. For example, in December 2013 Ukrainian prosecutors carried out a search in the local revenue service's building, and found more than USD 100,000 (EUR 77,000) in the revenue service officials' safes which is believed to be money that they received in bribes, newspaper "Crimean Telegraph" reported.

The newspaper found out that the bribe was provided by someone who wanted to evade criminal responsibility and property arrest for tax evasion in an unnamed construction project in the city. According to unofficial information, the case involves the prominent Sevastopol construction businessmen Valery Krishtal and Yevgeny Kazmin.

In 2005, the Sevastopol municipality allotted coastal land plots to Lokis LTD, which belongs, via several middlemen, to Krishtal and Kazmin, however, the Prosecutor's Office of Sevastopol repeatedly disputed the legitimacy of these deals.

In 2013, the Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case over abuse of office after Sevastopol officials illegally rented out 2.5 hectares of coastal land. This scandal involved Karbon, a company that is part of the KVV Group holding.

Another scandal involved Kuzmin's company "Grin" that cut off access to the sea for the local residents by illegally building a fence too close to the sea, and built a shooting range instead of a recreational complex there.

No one has been convicted in any of these cases. "Ir" writes, referring to Crimean media, that Krishtal is closely associated with the local authorities and officials.

As reported, the Ukrainian holding company KVV Group intends to invest EUR 30 million into Liepajas metalurgs and resume production already this year, Krishtal announced.

It is planned that Liepajas metalurgs will manufacture metal products for KVV Group, as well as for export.
