Ameriks: Latvian products should be exported to Western Europe
According to Ameriks, there are large communities of Latvian emigrants living in Great Britain, Ireland, Germany and other European countries that would buy Latvia-made products, therefore it is necessary to discuss the export of Latvian products to the West.
Currently, it is pointless to talk about selling Latvian products in Russian stores. The issue does have to be negotiated with Russia, however, now the main task is to re-orientate to other export markets, namely, the West, Ameriks believes.
As reported, Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs previously announced that he plans on going to Russia in the near future to meet with representatives of those supermarkets where the "Rizhskiy Dvorik" stands are located, asking them to keep the stands. He believes that there is a little hope that the war in Ukraine will end, and that Latvian products will be able to return to Russian market.
Today, Ameriks explained if Russia's counter-sanctions are expanded, operations at the Riga Port may come to a halt. In that case, the port will have to be closed, and 20,000 people will lose their jobs. This will also affect Klaipeda and Tallinn. It would be useful to use some sort of compensation mechanisms in this situation in order to help these people.
