Last month, Russian veterinary and food safety officials made a round of inspections in Estonian dairy and fish industries and now the first decision arrived: the exports of two companies to Russia have been temporarily suspended, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Estonian Veterinary and Food Board director general Ago Pärtel said that starting Monday, export to the customs union will be temporarily suspended from two fisheries companies, one of whom handled mainly red fish from third states or other member states and the other company shrimps. The two companies are OÜ Saare Fishexport and AS Geirom.

"According to the observations of Russian inspectors, it was hard to trace the raw material and final product and their opinion was that in some cases, a product could have been exported to Russia, the raw material for which was taken from such companies that were not in the list of companies aknowledged by Russia or who were subject to temporary restrictions," explained Pärtel.

Pärtel said that the same decision indicates that the laboratory studies of the raw material are different regarding some indicators of the customs union requirements, i.e. just some tests were missing.
