Court rejects arrest order on digital television equipment in Riga

Nina Kolyako, BC, Riga, 10.08.2010.Print version
Riga Regional Court yesterday fully rejected a request previously issued by the Office of the Prosecutor for an arrest order on six digital television transmitters and a digital TV head station, LETA was information by court representative Ilvars Tomsons.

The request had been submitted to a sitting of the court on August 3. It was indicated that the value of the equipment had been estimated as amounting to several million lats. The transmitters which the Office of the Prosecutor wished to have arrested belong to the company Hannu Digital, and are currently located at the television tower on Zakusala Island, where they provide the digital television signal for Riga and the surrounding area. The Office of the Prosecutor did not dispute these facts.

The Office of the Prosecutor believes that the equipment should be arrested as it was acquired through unlawful means, using bogus agreements.

Tomsons indicated that one witness had not attended yesterday's court sitting, where a hearing was planned on the so-called digital television affair; however, a second witness had submitted testimony.

The hearing will continue on August 17 at 10 a.m., added Tomsons.
