In order to reduce Covid-19 risks, starting from August 1, everyone arriving for job in Latvia from countries with high Covid-19 risks, including culture employees, will have to take two Covid-19 tests with five to seven day interval in between, according to the amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers regulations adopted today, informs LETA.

According to the new order, before starting their jobs, foreigners will have to take a Covid-19 test. It means that before the first negative result is received, the workers will have to stay in self-isolation.

Another test should be taken on the fifth to seventh day after leaving the high-risk country as Covid-19 infection might present itself later, most often on the fifth to seventh day.

At present foreigners, including culture employees, who arrived in Latvia for work from high-risk countries, could start work without the 14-day self isolation period. Those are persons who have received a permission from the Latvian Investment and Development Agency and arrive in Latvia with a decree with the culture minister.

A large part of the new Covid-19 infections in Latvia are imported cases. Also, the number of cases involving arriving guest workers has risen. In the time period from June 22 until today, 28 percent of Covid-19 cases were related with arrivals from abroad.

The state will cover the costs of the tests only of taxes are paid in Latvia. In other cases, the expenses should be covered by the arriving party or the organizer of the visit.
