BC, Riga, 29.05.2020.Print version
From January 1, 2021, Latvian Television Channel 7 (LTV7) will no longer broadcast minority content, the chairman of the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) Ivars Abolins said on May 29th, cites LETA.

He pointed out that national minority content has a place in the public media, but at the same time acknowledged that from January 1, 2021, national minority content will no longer be broadcast on LTV7.

According to Abolins, LTV7 will continue to broadcast in Latvian, while minority content will be transferred on-line, where a minority platform will be available on lsm.lv.

Abolins explained that television ratings "could be higher" and, seeing the "quality of the channel's journalism", he believes that such a multimedia platform will be able to reach and address minorities. The chairman of the NEPLP also mentioned that the decision was influenced by changes in television viewing habits.
