Covid-19 Latvia: Number of unemployed persons up 4,415 already in April

Altogether, 4,415 people have registered as jobless in Latvia so far this April, increasing the total unemployed population to 65,942, according to the State Employment Agency's data informed LETA.

The agency received reports of collective redundancies from 28 employers, laying off 4,135 people.


Collective redundancies have been announced by businesses in transport and warehousing, administrative and service operations, manufacturing, waste management, accommodation and catering, arts and entertainment, forestry, real estate business, professional, scientific and technical services, as well as wholesale and retail trade. In recent days, redundancy reports have been received also from companies in the financial and insurance sector.


At present, there are 17,923 job vacancies available in Latvia, including 1,061 vacancies registered in April. Compared to April 1, when there were 26,971 job vacancies registered with the agency, their number of reduced by 9,048.
