Latvia should take measures to improve business environment and ensure steeper and more balanced economic growth, Kucinskis said in an address to the forum participants. It would also ensure Latvia’s position in the Top 20 of Doing Business index and Top 40 of the Global Competitiveness Index in 2018.

In order to promote entrepreneurship, broader state and municipal support is needed, as well as a portfolio of strategic investment projects, improvement of court operations, and efficient management of state assets, the politician said.

"Balanced and predictable taxation policy is also important for Latvia, and collected taxes should amount to 33 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020. It can be achieved by curbing economic crimes and establishing a sustainable tax system," said the prime minister.

He also mentioned necessity for changes in the general education network, vocational education reforms, measures to promote birth rates, and strengthening the national identity.
