Kazakhstan bans import of Estonian and Latvian fishery products, following Russia's lead

BC, Riga, 29.07.2015.Print version
The Veterinary Supervision Authority of Kazakhstan has decided to introduce temporary restrictions on the import of Estonian and Latvian fish products, including canned fish, following the lead of Russia, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The Authority based its decision on the earlier decision of the Russian supervision authority Rosselhoznadzor, which banned the import of Estonian and Latvian fishery products to Russia, announced Rosselhoznadzor.

Kazakhstan's Veterinary Supervision Authority notice states that the Estonian and Latvian fishery products do not comply with the Eurasian Economic Union veterinary-sanitary requirements. Among other things, it refers to the excessive levels of benzo(a)pyrene and other hazardous substances in fishery products.

Restrictions were not reported in detail.

Rosselhoznadzor banned Estonian and Latvian fishery products' imports already earlier. Russia has also banned fishery products' transit to Kazakhstan.
