The Economy Ministry's report says that in order to strengthen and extend economic, industrial, scientific, and technical cooperation, including finding beneficial terms for trade agreements, the government of Latvia has signed intergovernmental economic cooperation agreement with Russia, China, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Armenia.
Furthermore, during Latvian President Andris Berzins' visit in Ankara, Turkey on April 16, 2014, the "Declaration on the establishment of Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO) between the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Latvia" was signed.
Taking into account Latvia's business interests in new export markets, including the Persian Gulf, negotiations on intergovernmental economic cooperation with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are currently underway.
In 2014, Latvia registered positive foreign trade balance with Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, namely, the volume of Latvian exports to these countries exceeded the import volume.
