BC, Riga, 04.09.2013.Print version
The police have finally apprehended robbery suspect Ralfs Tokaho, ending a manhunt that continued for more than one-and-a-half weeks in Latvia.

State Police Latgale Region Administration's representative Anatasija Laizane confirmed to LETA that Tokaho had been arrested, but said that more information would be released later during the day.

LETA has unofficial information that Tokaho has suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder. It is possible that he was detained in a private home on the outskirts of Rezekne.

LETA has found out that Tokaho has been placed in Rezekne Hospital to undergo an operation. The hospital is not revealing, however, what kind of injury Tokaho has sustained.

Police guards have been posted outside Tokaho's ward.

As reported, an armed robbery occurred on August 23 at around 5:00 p.m., when a man, later identified as ex-con Tokaho, entered an auto repair shop in Rezekne with a sawed-off shotgun, tied up employees and stole an ''Audi Q7'' automobile.

A while later, police in Rezekne began to chase the vehicle after it was speeding through the city's streets. A car chase ensued, but Tokaho's vehicle crashed moments later.

Using his shotgun, Tokaho then opened fire at police and stole their marked police vehicle. Police opened fire at the vehicle, but he was able to escape.
