The advantage of a digital document against a physical ID card is the option for issuing them quickly.
While at least 5 days are needed for issuing ID cards, digital identification documents would be received upon application from the Citizenship and Migration Board, said minister of internal affairs Jüri Pihl.
ID cards and digital identification documents could be used simultaneously for working in two electronic environments. Pihl stated that digital authentication is different from ID cards because they could not be used for physically identify its owner as it does not contain the image of the holder.
