Childcare allowance to be introduced during Covid-19 pandemic in Latvia
After the meeting, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New) informed that the government supported the proposal of the Ministry of Welfare (MoW) that if due to Covid-19 children under the age of ten are required to study remotely, the state will cover the incapacity sheet for the child's parent.
The MoW explains that as Covid-19 continues to spread rapidly, some pre-schools are closed and studies in the general education program are organized remotely. As a result, a number of families with children between the ages of one and ten or a child with a disability under the age of 18, who do not have the opportunity to work remotely due to the nature of their work, are in need of childcare support.
This law amendment will be brought forward to Saeima for approval in the near future.
