Latvia: Police arrests gold and properties worth EUR 1.5 mln in large-scale drug business case

The State Police arrested gold worth EUR 350,466 and properties worth EUR 1.5 million as a result of investigation into of large-scale drug business, LETA learned from the police.

Law enforcement officers last year uncovered an organized group engaged in sale and storage of drugs and money laundering on a large scale.


On April 4, 2019, in cooperation with Omega anti-terrorism squad, the State Border Guard special unit Sigma and other services five people were detained - men born in 1965, 1956, 1987 and 1993, as well as a woman born in 1971. All persons were arrested.


Two other people - a man born in 1969 and a woman born in 1972 are still on the wanted persons list. Possibly they have left Latvia.


Two of the detained men who organized distribution of drugs had a previous criminal record of different crimes. The woman had no previous criminal record, while two other men had earlier been engaged in drug-related crimes.


In searches, the police also seized large amounts of drugs. The police discovered that the gang had been selling drugs in the Riga region, Kurzeme region and even transported them to other Baltic states.


At the end of last year charges were pressed against all these persons.
