The controversial "For Native Language!" party member Jevgenijs Osipovs and the pro-Russian activist Vladimirs Lindermans have also been prohibited from entering Estonia for a period of five years, controversial political activist and member of "For Native Language!" Illarions Girss told LETA.

Girss pointed out that the Estonian Interior Ministry has prohibited Osipovs, Lindermans and himself from entering Estonia for a period of five years starting from this past July.

As reported, Girss told LETA that he was informed recently that he has been banned from entering Estonia for a five-year period. Girss had wanted to travel to Russia via Estonia; he was told at the border that the ban on against him was decreed for five years back in July by the Estonian government.

Girss recalled that he was handed "some sort of document" in the Estonian language, and advised to turn to the Estonian Embassy in Latvia for an explanation. Girss commented that his public and political activity are the only reasons he can think of why he has been blacklisted.

Raimonds Jansons from the press office at the Foreign Ministry, told LETA that the ministry as a rule does not comment decisions made (or not) by other countries about specific individuals.

Girss pointed out that taking into account that restrictions were placed on him on exiting Latvia, this too made crossing the border problematic. He believes that this measure of precaution has been lifted and he is permitted to leave Latvia. The Security Police had turned against Girss, accusing him of activity inciting ethnic hatred.
