New opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation with Lithuania presented in Japan

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Rolandas Krisciunas paid a working visit to Japan on 8-10 June 2015, reported BC the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Krisciunas met with Parliamentary Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Kentaro Sonoura to discuss bilateral political and economic relations, cooperation on maintaining international peace and security, aggression against Ukraine.

The foreign deputy minister thanked Japan for consistent support to Lithuania's OECD membership. According to Sonoura, Japan values Lithuania as a very important partner in the international arena and welcomes its involvement in activities of the United Nations Security Council.

 

During the visit, special attention was paid to bilateral economic ties, the strengthening of cooperation in the fields of energy and transport, and to attracting Japanese investment to Lithuania.

 

During the seminars at Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Embassy of Lithuania in Tokyo, Lithuania's foreign deputy minister and representatives of Klaipeda State Seaport presented new opportunities for cooperation with Lithuania, the country's energy and transport infrastructure to Japanese businessmen and journalists.

 

Deputy Minister Krisciunas underlined that Lithuania's excellently-developed international transport infrastructure opened up wonderful opportunities for Japanese producers to better reach the markets of the European Union and other neighbouring countries. "Klaipeda is the only ice-free port on the east coast of the Baltic Sea, which can become a gateway for Japanese companies to the region's large markets," said Rolandas Krisciunas.

 

The Lithuanian delegation led by the foreign deputy minister has discussed opportunities for further development of economic ties also with representatives of KEIDANREN (Japan Business Federation) and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO). Various cooperation projects were also discussed with representatives of Japan-Lithuania Friendship Association and Japan-Lithuania Exchange Centre.
