Parliament of Australia.

"Lithuania aims at becoming a member of the OECD and we are grateful for Australia's support," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy, the Lithuania MFA said.

Lithuanian economic potential of promising innovative sectors, free economic zone, the investment climate and transport infrastructure were introduced to Australian trade agency Austrade, the Australian Chamber of Commerce, Industry leaders and experts.

"The opening of negotiations on Lithuania's participation in the Australian working holiday program will further strengthen our bilateral relations, people-to-people ties and promote student exchange," stressed Linkevicius. "I am glad that Australian business people show interest in Lithuania and our region. Over past 6 years, Lithuanian exports to Australia have increased three times. Although trading volumes are still small, broader advertising of Lithuania to the world's 12th largest economy will hopefully be productive," said the foreign minister.

According to Linkevicius, our efforts to promote Lithuania's engineering industry and the sector of life sciences could increase export volumes. "I hope that the newly established and Melbourne-based Australian-Lithuanian Business Council together with our honorary consuls, will contribute to the growth of Lithuania's export volumes," said Linkevicius. The foreign minister also expressed hope that Australia's large and dynamic sector of life sciences would be interested in the fast-growing sector of life sciences in Lithuania.

On the last day of his visit to Australia, the foreign minister also met with Tanya Plibersek, deputy leader of the opposition, shadow minister for Foreign Affairs, and EU Ambassador to Australia Sem Fabrizi, also visited the Lithuanian community in Canberra.
