27 marijuana nurseries busted in 2014 in Latvia; 25 drug couriers detained

In 2014, the State Police of Latvia busted 27 marijuana nurseries in the country, reports LETA, according to the State Police's Criminal Police Department statistics from 2014.

Furthermore, a total of 25 drug couriers from Latvia were detained abroad last year.

 

The most popular drugs circulating in Latvia was last were amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, and the so-called ''spice'' hallucinogens.

 

State Police Criminal Police Chief Andrejs Grisins said at a press conference today that the marijuana ''business'' continues to develop, and many marijuana growers/dealers are also growing hallucinogenic mushrooms.

 

Overall, a total of 2,995 drug-related crimes were committed in Latvia last year, which was by 941 more than the previous year.

 

In 2014, the State Police confiscated 15.9 kilograms of amphetamine substances, 12.3 kilograms of ''spice'' and similar hallucinogens, 35.5 kilograms of cannabis, 0.16 kilograms of cocaine, 10.6 kilograms of opium, and other illegal substances.
