85% solutions suggested by Audit Office accepted by Latvian state institutions

BC, Riga, 19.12.2014.Print version
State institutions have implemented at least 85% of solutions suggested by the State Audit Office in Latvia, yet a number of institutions are still reluctant to change anything, reports LETA.

Auditor General Elita Krumina said in an interview with the Latvian Television show "Rita Panorama" this morning that, after summarizing the 2014 audit results, the Audit Office has concluded that this year has been very successful. The results show that state institutions have implemented at least 85% of the solutions recommended to improve their financial indicators.

"I will be frank – state institutions, especially ministries, have different opinions about the necessary improvements or violations detected during an audit, therefore, there are several institutions that the State Audit Office still needs to address," Krumina said.

Krumina declined to name those institutions that have neglected the Audit Office's suggestions, adding that the Freeport of Riga as usual has some fundamental problems.

"However, in this case I must admit that a large number of suggestions are being followed, yet the issue of the freeport's economic activity, which has resulted in a loss of EUR 36 million, still remains. The Prosecutor General's office is still investigating this case, and I cannot predict what this will result in," Krumina said.
