BC, Riga, 01.07.2016.Print version
A total of EUR 8.1 million has been invested in reconstruction of the Riga Motor Museum, as the Road Traffic Safety Directorate CEO Andris Lukstins told LETA today.

The museum's building has been built anew. Reconstruction costs amounted to EUR 5.6 mln, and the total value of exhibits is EUR 2.5 mln.

The Road Traffic Safety Directorate had to borrow a loan for financing the project, said Lukstins. The directorate hopes that ticket sales will generate enough income to repay the loan.

The museum's exhibition includes over 100 automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles on three floors, covering an area of over 4,000 square meters. The exhibition is organized in a form of an exciting interactive story about unique vehicles, notable persons and the most significant events in the history of automotive industry and humanity alike. There are also several modern conference halls in the museum building, a cafe, and a playground.

The building of the Riga Motor Museum was reconstructed by the architectural practice Arhis and construction company Skonto Buve, the exhibition design was created by H2E.

The museum, which originally opened in 1989, reopens tomorrow, July 2.
