In Q2, all modes of transport carried 8.1% more goods in Lithuania

According to preliminary data, in the second quarter of 2014 all modes of transport carried 29.9 million tonnes of goods, i.e. by 8.1% more than in the second quarter of 2013 when 27.7 million tonnes were carried, informs LETA/ELTA, referring to the Statistics Department.

Based on the data of Statistics Lithuania, 53.3% of cargo was transported by road, 40.3% by rail, 5.4% by sea, 1% by inland waterways transport and 0.001% by air.

In the second quarter of 2014 compared with corresponding period of 2013, road transportation increased by 11.9% (from 14.3 to 16.0 million tonnes), rail transportation by 7.2% (from 11.3 to 12.1 million tonnes.

 

On the other hand, transportation by inland waterways transport dropped by 9.5% (from 320,400 to 289,800 tonnes), by sea – 12% (from 1.8 to 1.6 million tonnes), by air – 35.2% (from 0.3 thousand to 0.2 thousand tonnes).

 

In the second quarter of 2014 a total of 108.7 million passengers were carried, i.e. by 9.4% more than in the second quarter of 2013 when 99.4 million passengers were carried.


The most, 98.2% of passengers, were carried by road, 1.1% by rail, 0.5% by inland waterways transport, 0.2% by air, 0.1% by sea.

 

In January-June 2014 year-on-year the amount of goods carried by all modes of transport increased by 5.5% from 53.7 million tonnes to 56.7 million tonnes. The number of passengers transported grew by 9.3% from 201.1 million to 219.8 million.
