Former Lenta.ru chief editor confirms new Russian news medium in Latvia

Print versionFormer chief editor of the Russian news site Lenta.ru, Galina Timchenko, will open a new online Russian news medium Medusa in Latvia in mid-October 2014, Timchenko confirmed in an interview with the business magazine Forbes, cites LETA.

Medusa indicated that the decision to base it in Latvia was made due to the reason that "it is possible to establish an independent publishing house in Latvia, while in Russia it is impossible."
Medusa will be available as an Internet news site, and also as a mobile application.
The project is funded by a "consortium of investors" that Medusa refuses to reveal.
According to Timchenko, these investors are not connected to the media or politics. Timchenko also turned to CEO of Yukos Mikhail Khodorkovsky to discuss the funding, however, they were unable to come to an agreement.
As reported, Timchenko registered Medusa Project in Latvia on June 10. The company began employing people in August.
