Rinkevics pointed out the IT and tourism industries as other potential areas of cooperation.

Rinkevics also praised the development of the political dialogue between the two countries, as well as the fact that Latvian citizens will be able to travel to the United Arab Emirates visa-free from March 22. At the same time, he thanked his colleague for his assistance in helping to open an embassy in Abu Dhabi, which is Latvia's first embassy in the Persian Gulf region.

The Latvian foreign minister also added that both countries are ready to sign an agreement on economic cooperation. Al Nahyan said that despite the recent successes in bilateral cooperation, he said that he sees areas where this cooperation can be expanded, like, for example, economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in the areas of culture and science.

In 2013, trade volumes between Latvia and the UAE reached EUR 23.4 million.
