Tallinn's new 100 mln euro Ülemiste traffic junction opens
Äripäev.ee writes that the infrastructure project included a 680 metres long car traffic tunnel, three bike and pedestrian tunnels and a 150 meters long overpass. The traffic junction has 8.7 km of roads and 7 km of bicycle and pedestrian roads. The tunnel meant that in the deepest place where construction took place was 16 meters below the water level of the nearby Lake Ülemiste.
The Ülemiste traffic junction was built by the consortium of AS Merko Ehitus Eesti, AS Merko Infra, Tallinna Teede AS and AS Ehitusfirma Rand ja Tuulberg.
Ülemiste traffic junction is one of the min traffic junctions in Tallinn where Tartu Road, Peterburi Road, Suur-Sõjamäe Street, Järvevana Road and a railway line all cross. The construction contract was concluded at the end of 2010. Two thirds of the financing came from the European Union funds and a third from the city of Tallinn.
