European Union's IT Agency to start working in Tallinn in December

On December 1, 2012, the European Union IT Agency will start operating in Tallinn to administer and develop information systems that mainly concern EU's internal security, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The management of the agency takes place in Tallinn but servers and technical support are located in Strasbourg, France.

 

"The initial task is to take over administering the existing IT systems in the justice an internal issues sphere which means visa information systems, Eurodac, an Schengen new second generation information system," said European Union IT Agency director Krum Garkov. In long term perspective, the agency will have extended tasks of developing and implementing new systems.

 

120 people will work in the IT Agency, 45 of them in Tallinn. Initially they work in the European Union House but in a few years' time a new building should be completed, which is the Estonian contribution to the agency. Estonian interior minister Ken-Marti Vaher said that in 2013, the location of it will be decided and preparations for construction will be launched.
