Edelaraudtee, the Estonian railway passenger transport enterprise, launched on Friday its new information display solution based on the GPS system that will forward to passengers location-based information on each train station and train stop, will provide real-time information on the trains’ locations and will make it possible to get more precise information about trips, writes LETA/Postimees Online.

The information displays and the web interface indicate the number and route of trips about to arrive to and depart from stations, the time of arrivals and departures, the distance of the train from the station and information on the punctuality of the trip.

Sales director of Edelaraudtee Annemari Oherd noted that the new solution is a part of the developed information project, the objective of which is to provide passengers opportunities to operatively acquire information on trips provided by the company. “Now passengers can see information on a particular station from every computer and phone that is connected to the internet,” she said.

Thus far, physical information displays are installed in the Türi Station, Rapla Station, Viljandi Station and in the Balti Station in Tallinn. “In the future, we plan to install information displays in other stations as well – the preparedness for it across Estonia is guaranteed,” said Oherd.

Edelaraudtee is planning to equip all serviced train stations and train stops with QR codes that link one to the relevant station’s or train stop’s information display in the internet.
