In Q3 the volume of freights carried by all types of transport has increased in Latvia

In the 3rd quarter of 2011 the volume of freights carried by all types of transport has increased, according to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau.

13.3 million tons of freight were carried by rail, which is an increase of 14.2% as compared to the 3rd quarter of 2010.

12.9 million tons of freight were international freights carried by rail, which is an increase of 1.7 million tons (15%). 82.9% of the total international freight haulage was comprised by transportation through the Latvian ports. 0.4 million tons of freight were national freights carried by rail, which is 22.2 thousand tons (5.1%) less than in the 3rd quarter of 2010.

 

16.7 million tons of freight in the 3rd quarter of 2011 were freights carried by road, which is 20.4% more than in the 3rd quarter of 2010.

In the 3rd quarter of 2011, 38.3% (6.4 mln tons) of the total volume of freights carried by road were comprised by metal ores and other mining and quarrying products and peat, 21.6% (3.6 mln t) – products of agriculture, hunting and forestry, fish and other fishing products, but 14.5% (2.4 mln tons) – by wood and products of wood and cork (except furniture), pulp, paper and paper products, printed matter and recorded media.

 

The freights by road are transported both – on own account and for hire or reward.11.7 million tons of freight were transported for hire or reward, a growth of 35.7% as compared to July – September of the previous year. The increase was determined by growth in the volume of freights for hire or reward in national freights of 38.7% and in cross-trade and cabotage freights of 42.1%. 5 million tons of freight were transported on own account, which is a decrease of 4.8%.

 

In the 3rd quarter of 2011, 1.5 million tons of oil products were transported by the oil products pipeline – a rise of 9% as compared to the 3rd quarter of 2010. In January – September, 2011 the volume of transported oil products (4.8 mln t) grew by 10.8% as compared to the first nine months of 2010.

 

Passenger transportation by public transport in the 3rd quarter of 2011 generally has slightly reduced (by 0.7%).

In the 3rd quarter of 2011, 5.9 million passengers were carried by rail, which is a decrease of 0.3% as compared to the 3rd quarter of 2010. The number of passengers carried by national transport has diminished by 0.4%, whereas in international transport (mainly between Latvia and Russia) grown by 3.5%.

 

In the 3rd quarter of 2011 the number of passengers carried by regular bus traffic comprised 28.1 million passengers – a decrease of 5.4%, as compared to July – September of the previous year. The majority (99.5%) of these passengers were carried by national bus traffic. The number of passengers carried by national transport decreased by 5.4%, whereas the number of passengers carried by international transport grew by 6.5%.

 

In the 3rd quarter of 2011, 20.3 million passengers were carried by urban electrified transport, which is an increase of 6.4%, as compared to July – September of the previous year. The number of passengers carried by trolleybuses increased by 7.5%, whereas by trams – by 5.3%.
