Baltic States in EU's TOP-5 steepest increases in export in H1

Latvia's export volume in the first half of 2011 grew 37%, compared to the respective period last year – the fifth largest increase across the European Union, the EU statistical office Eurostat reports. According to seasonally unadjusted data, Malta registered the largest increase in exports in the first half-year – 54%, followed by Estonia – 53%, Lithuania – 41% and Bulgaria – 40%.
All the EU member states reported increases in their exports in the first half of 2011.
At the same time, Latvia's imports in the first half-year increased 35% from the same period last year, which was the third steepest increase in the EU, writes LETA.
Estonia and Lithuania recorded steeper increases in imports – 49% and 42%, respectively.
Greece was the only member state to record a decrease in imports – down 20%.
Latvia's foreign trade deficit in the first half-year was EUR 0.8 billion (LVL 0.6 billion), compared to EUR 0.6 billion (LVL 0.4 billion) in the respective period in 2010.
