BC, Vilnius, 20.11.2020.Print version
YZZY Biotech, a biotechnology startup based in Lithuania's northern city of Panevezys, has developed molecular diagnostic kits for the detection of COVID-19, the Lrt.lt news website reported on November 20th, cites LETA/BNS.
The company now has a weekly capacity to produce kits for performing 50,000 tests and has already received its first orders from Lithuanian private laboratories, it wrote.
YZZY Biotech CEO Tomas Vaitkevicius says the company is planning to supply reagents to Lithuanian hospitals and private laboratories for now, but it is eying foreign markets, too.
The startup has already received inquiries from Spain, Britain and Italy, and has begun the process of registration for an FDA license to supply reagents to the US market.
YZZY Biotech was previously developing a system for diagnosing classical and African swine fever for a Spanish laboratory and was planning to register its product in the autumn, but the coronavirus crisis changed its plans.
