BC, Tallinn, 22.07.2020.Print version
A brand new harness racing track being built by YIT Ehitus in Tuula village in the territory of Saue municipality outside Tallinn is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020, reports LETA/BNS.

The first structures to be built are the course and the stables. The 1,000-meter course will be 18 meters wide and have a green area with a pond at its center, the newspaper of Saue municipality reported.

The spectator area of the new complex will not be big as there are only a hundred or so fans here who go to races in person on Saturdays, with the rest watching the races online.

Before actual construction work can begin, the plot will be equipped with a drainage system and a rainwater removal system built. As part of that work, YIT is about to install 900 meters of culvert pipes and rainwater pipes as well as 2.3 kilometers of drainage. Also as part of the project, in-facility roads and parking lots will be built for spectators' cars, motorcycles and buses, horse carrying trailers and vehicles of employees.

According to Jaanus Mikk, board member of Hipodroom OU, the first competitions at the new harness racing track will be held in 2021.

Tallinn Hippodrome is about to relocate from its current compound in the territory of the city to make room for real estate development. The first new buildings to be erected on the plot include a new building for the head office of telecommunications operator Elisa and four apartment buildings. Before that can happen, a dispute between the developer and the city government over the characteristics of the rainwater removal system that has to be established on the plot must be resolved.
