Tallink Hotels to reopen hotel in Riga from June

BC, Riga, 22.05.2020.Print version
Tallink Hotels, a subsidiary of listed Estonian shipper Tallink Group, will reopen the doors of the Tallink Hotel Riga in Riga to customers as of June 1, 2020, informs LETA/BNS.

The operation of the hotel was temporarily suspended on March 18 due to travel restrictions and emergency situations declared due to the coronavirus. As the travel ban between the Baltic countries has been lifted by now and Estonian and Lithuanian citizens can already travel to neighboring countries at present, the management board of Tallink Hotels decided to reopen the hotel in the capital of Latvia from June 1, Tallink said.

Tallink Hotels management board member Ave Svarts said in a press release that a survey conducted among members of Tallink's Club One loyalty program at the beginning of May clearly showed that interest in traveling to neighboring countries is considerable among Estonians after a long period of travel restrictions and more than half of Estonians still want to travel to at least one of Estonia's neighboring countries this summer.

"The best and most convenient alternative to a holiday at home at the moment is definitely a holiday with our southern neighbors, where it is as good and safe to vacation today as at home, because the epidemic situation in the country is similar to Estonia," Svarts added.

Tallink Hotels operates four hotels --  Tallink Express, Tallink City and Tallink Spa & Conference hotels in Tallinn and Tallink Hotel Riga in the Latvian capital. Due to travel restrictions caused by COVID-19 and the emergency situations declared, only the Tallink Express Hotel is temporarily open in Tallinn. The company hopes to open the Tallink Spa & Conference Hotel in the near future.
