Covid-19: Restrictions re shopping centers eased in Estonia

The person in charge of the emergency situation in Estonia, Prime Minister Juri Ratas, signed an order on Tuesday which allows shopping centers to be reopened starting from next week provided that hygiene requirements are observed, informed LETA/BNS.

Sales and service premises as well a catering establishments in shopping centers can be opened from May 11 on the condition that the availability of disinfectants is ensured and the 2+2 rule is observed. The same rules apply also to all other service points and catering establishments outside shopping centers.  


At catering establishments located in a shopping center, where the sale of only takeaway food was permitted to date, food can be offered for consumption also on-site starting from May 11. At catering establishments the 2+2 rule must be observed and tables placed in such way that there was a distance of at least two meters between tables and no more than two people could sit at each table, with the exception of families. It is recommended that only table service is used in order to reduce clients' contacts with service personnel and visitors.


The restriction according to which the consumption of food must end at 10 p.m. the latest, in order to avoid the gathering of people in restaurants, cafes and bars in the evening, will continue to apply. 


In order to keep the spread of the coronavirus under control, sports halls, playrooms, casinos, slot machine halls and entertainment establishments such as snooker halls and bowling alleys in shopping centers will remain closed. Likewise, the ban on the staging of cinema screenings, nightclub events, performances, concerts and conference will remain in force in shopping centers just like everywhere else.


It is recommended that all customer service personnel in shopping centers wear personal protective equipment indoors.  


The emergency situation restrictions concerning shopping centers affect altogether 336 shopping centers across Estonia, of which 134 are situated in Harju County, 48 in Tartu County and 40 in East-Viru County.
