Latvia Covid-19: Outpatient and diagnostic services to partly resume on Monday

BC, Riga, 18.04.2020.Print version
Health Minister Ilze Vinkele (For Development/For) today signed an decree on partial resumption of outpatient and diagnostic services at healthcare institutions from Monday, April 20, writes LETA.

Vinkele points out on Twitter that she has agreed with physicians on the necessary safety measures for both medical staff and patients in order to resume dental, specialist consultations, examinations and other medical services.

Also will be resumed mammography screenings, several examinations with referrals from family physicians, consultations with several specialists, and others.

As reported, provision of scheduled care services, including at private healthcare institutions, has been partially restricted by Vinkele, therefore the workload for some physicians and healthcare workers has decreased.

Vinkele said at a press conference on Thursday that talks with representatives of the healthcare industry had concluded that the provision of healthcare services should be resumed gradually, and that resumption of services should start with diagnostics.

A few days before that, however, Vinkele said that epidemiologists and infectious diseases specialists expect the spread of Covid-19 infections in Latvia to peak around April 25, which means that the restrictions introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus will not be lifted in the next coming days.
