Hydropower plants on the Daugava River generated 384,743 MWh of power in January 2020, which is 4.7 times more than in the same period a year ago, while small hydropower plants generated 11,109 MWh of electric power, which is 3.2 times more than a year ago.

Thermal power stations Rigas TEC-1, Rigas TEC-2, Rigas Siltums, Juglas Jauda and Fortum generated 117,230 MWh of power, which is 3.3 times more than in January 2019.

Electric power generation at power plants running on biomass declined 8.6% on year to 35,382 MWh, combined heat and power plants generated 31,414 MWh of electricity, down 31.7%, and power plants running on biogas generated 25,509 MWh of electricity, down 14.6% from the first month of 2019.

Power generation by Latvia’s wind farms increased by 79.6% on year to 23,676 MWh and solar power stations generated 14 MWh of electricity, up 40%.

According to the Augstsprieguma Tikls report, electricity consumption in Latvia declined 6.5% on year to 660,916 in January 2020.

In January 2020, Latvia generated 95% of the electric power it consumed during the month, which is an increase of 10 percentage points against the same period last year.

Electricity imports from third countries fell 24.5% on year to 347.434 MWh in January this year.
