Tax-free purchases in Latvia grow by 6.5% in H2 2019

In the second half of last year, the volume of tax-free purchases in Latvia rose by 6.5% y-o-y, Vineta Kalmane, the head of Global Blue Latvija company, ensuring the service said LETA.
She said that the tax-free system is designed to promote interest of tourists from third countries to make purchases and support local merchants.
According to Kalmane, in 2019, the average tax-free purchase was EUR 230, which is by 3% more than a year ago. More than half or 61% of purchases were made by Russian citizens, 10% by Belarus citizens, and 7% by Ukrainian citizens. In total, citizens from 175 countries made tax-free purchases last year.
The most popular place for tax-free purchases was Spice shopping center, and most popular products were clothing (62%). Spice director Kadrija Pudova said that the most popular stores among foreigners were iDeal, Massimo Dutti, Marella, Max&Co, Max Mara Weekend and Michael Kors.
