Number of flights handled by Latvian air traffic controller LGS up 8.7% in 2018

Latvian air traffic controller Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme (LGS), which is responsible for managing air traffic in Latvia, handled 292,475 flights in 2018, which is a growth by 8.7% against 2017, the company said.

Last year, LGS handled 83,228 flights to and from Riga, up 11.6% y-o-y, and 209,247 transit flights, up 7.6% against the 12 months of 2017.


In December 2018, LGS handled 21,654 flights, up 8.4% against the same month last year, including 6,321 flights to and from Riga, up 4.3%, and 15,333 transit flights, up 10.1 % year-on-year.


The number of flights handled in 2017 rose by 8.9% against 2016 to 268,967. The 2017 total includes 74,534 flights to and from Riga, up 9.9% year-on-year, as well as 194,433 transit flights at an 8.5% growth from 2016.


LGS is a fully state-owned company providing air navigation services to air space users.
