The Tallinn city government is to start testing a self-driving bus performing the so-called last mile in 2018, informs LETA/BNS.

It was decided at Wednesday's city government sitting that a proposal would be submitted to the council to participate in transitioning to the environmentally friendly Baltic Sea project of using self-driving buses for the last mile service, the city government said.

According to deputy chairman Tonis Molder, the project supports the goals of the Tallinn development plan.

In the framework of the project, Tallinn, Helsinki and Kongsberg will try autonomous self-driving buses in the city's public transport network for 6-9 months.

The budget for the whole project is 3.9 million euros, of which Tallinn's part is 382,000 euros and contribution 57,300 euros. It is hoped that the CO2 level would be reduced in the cities as a result.
