Estonian EconMin, construction sector in Singapore sign building information modeling agreement
"The agreement jointly signed by the private and public sector is a
large step for the Estonian construction sector, which helps birth new Estonian
success stories in the field of e-construction," Juri Rass, deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Economic
Affairs and Communications for construction, said.
The aim of the joint agreement signed by representatives of the
construction sector is to increase the efficiency of the construction sector,
in cooperation with universities enhance the level of implementing building
information modeling (BIM) and make the work flow of the life cycle of
construction transparent, traceable and cost-effective.
The joint agreement also agreed on establishing a basis for the creation of
new digital services in the construction field and the fast and smooth handling
of documentation concerning construction.
Indrek Moorats, board member at E.L.L. Kinnisvara
and the Digital Construction Cluster, said that Singapore is a strong example
in the world in terms of implementing the digitalization of the construction
sector as clear goals and a support structure for achieving the goals have been
set by the state.
"The digital solutions of the construction sector seen in Singapore
are truly inspiring and clearly stand out for their innovative approach, from
which we should also learn. At the same time, when analyzing the developments
there at present, we can see that acting in a smart and determined way we
ourselves will be able in the next few years to reach at least an equal
level," Moorats said.
The agreement with the deputy secretary general of the Ministry of Economic
Affairs and Communications was also signed by Merko Ehitus Eesti AS, Nordecon AS, Astlanda Ehitus OU, E.L.L.
Kinnisvara As, Riigi Kinnisvara AS, AS Port of Tallinn and the City of
Tallinn.
Participants of the visit of Estonian construction companies to Singapore
that lasted from Nov. 2 to Nov. 13 included the Digital Construction Cluster's
partnering construction companies, real estate developers, designers, real
estate managers, public sector organizations and representatives of the Ministry
of Economic Affairs and Communications.
The meetings, workshops and seminars held during the visit were attended by
representatives of Singapore's public sector, universities, research
institutions, construction companies and designing and production companies.
BIM or Building Information Modeling and Management increases the
functionality and quality of the construction, cuts back on mistakes and
inconsistencies during the design and construction phases by decreasing
material, financial, and human resource expenses.
