In July, exports and imports in Lithuania increased by 11.4% and 15.4% y-o-y

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations, Intrastat reporting and VAT returns data, exports in July 2017 amounted to 2.03 billion, imports – EUR 2.33 billion. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 1.15 billion. The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 298 million.

Over the month (July 2017, against June), exports decreased by 10.6, imports – 0.7%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (14.9%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (21.8%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (10.6%). The decrease in imports was determined by a decrease in imports of machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (6.2%), edible fruit and nuts (28.8%), articles of iron or steel (17.4%). A decrease in imports was slowed down by an increase in imports of crude petroleum. Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 10.3, imports – 3.6%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 14.1%, mineral products excluded – 12.6%.




Over the year (July 2017, against July 2016), exports increased by 11.4, imports – 15.4%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of ground vehicles (56.6%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (34.7%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (21.8%). An increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of ground vehicles (34.4%), crude petroleum (22.3%) (amount in tonnes decreased by 2.3%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (29.6%). Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 13.8 and 16.4% respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 7.2%, mineral products excluded – 7.6%.


In January–July 2017, against the same period of 2016, exports and imports increased by 16.8 and 16.4% respectively. The increase in exports was determined by an increase in exports of petroleum products (22.2%) (amount in tonnes decreased by 8.6%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (27.4%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (27.6%). The increase in imports was influenced by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (60.4%)  (amount in tonnes increased by 5.5%), ground vehicles (19.4%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (16.6%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 15.7, imports – 13.8%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 15.1%, mineral products excluded – 11%.


In January–July 2017, the most important Lithuania’s partners in exports were Russia (14.2%), Latvia (10.1%), Poland (8.5%) and Germany (7.3%), while in imports – Russia (13%), Germany (12.5%), Poland (10.6%) and Latvia (7%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (9.5%), Poland (9.2%), the United States (8.1%), Sweden (7.5%) and Latvia (7.5%).




In January–July 2017, the largest share in Lithuania’s exports and imports fell within mineral products (14.6 and 19.5 respectively), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (15.8 and 18.1% respectively) and products of the chemical and allied industries (10.2 and 11.9% respectively).  As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within petroleum products (19.7%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (11.7%), prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco (9%), plastics and articles thereof (7.8%).
