Eesti Post to expand network of parcel machines in Baltics by half

BC, Tallinn, 22.08.2017.Print version
The state owned Estonian postal and logistics company Eesti Post is about to install 65 brand new parcel machines across the Baltic countries this fall, as a result of which the size of its parcel machine network will grow by almost half from the present, informs LETA/BNS.

The company, which uses the Omniva trade mark, will install 10 new parcel machines in Estonia, 30 in Latvia and 25 in Lithuania. In addition, capacity will be added to several of the existing machines. All told, the network will expand by 46%, Eesti Post said.

Tanel Raun, manager of the parcel machine network of Eesti Post, said that the expansion is mainly attributable to the fast development of e-commerce.

"Increase in c-commerce, particularly in cross-border e-commerce, has been so fast that several existing machines have turned out too small to serve growing volumes," Raun said. "In Estonia slots will be added to 45 machines, across the Baltic countries the network will grow by 46%."

At present Eesti Post operates 276 parcel machines with altogether 33,000 slots in more than 120 towns and cities across the Baltic countries. The company intends to invest over 20 million euros in its parcel machine network over the next five years, as a result of which the number of machines is to increase severalfold. A public procurement tender announced by Eesti Post in spring to acquire parcel machines of different types is in the final stages.

AS Eesti Post group is made up of AS Eesti Post as the parent company, subsidiary AS Maksekeskus, Lithuanian subsidiary UAB Omniva LT, Latvian subsidiary SIA Omniva, and affiliated company OU Post11.
