Taxify expands to Azerbaijan and Malta

BC, Tallinn, 12.04.2017.Print version
The Estonian taxi-hailing and ridesharing app Taxify has launched in Azerbaijan's capital Baku and Malta, reports LETA/BNS.

So far Taxify operated only in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi in the Caucasus region, the company said. As of the end of March it is possible to use the Taxify service also in Baku. According to Taxify's chief innovation officer Jevgeni Beloussov there is a lot of interest in the service: Taxify launched with 250 private drivers and more than 5,000 rides were made in the first week which is one of the most successful launches in the app's history. Compared with competitors Taxify offers more inexpensive commission charges to drivers and friendlier local customer service.

Malta is the EU presidency holder in the first half of 2017 and in connection with that thousands of European official are visiting Malta, besides tourists. Due to substantially increased demand Taxify decided to enter Malta's market in cooperation with a local taxi company which is headed by Estonian Vambo Laud. According to Laud at present the Maltese legislation rather favors traditional taxies, but taxi monitoring is insufficient and can be compared with the situation in Estonia in the 90s. "Taxi drivers often try to charge more in tourist areas, but Taxify will create reliability through a feedback system and offers more convenient payment solutions," Laud added.

On Tuesday the number of downloads of the Taxify app on the Android platform exceeded 1 mln.
