Teligent planning to develop generic drugs in Tallinn

The NASDAQ-listed pharmaceutical company Teligent that opened a laboratory costing almost a million euros in Tallinn last week will focus on analytical chemistry in the initial phase but has set its sights also on conducting product development for various generic drugs here in the future, informed LETA/BNS.

Right now the lab focuses in its work on analytical chemistry, including developing and checking various methods of analysis, told Teligent Eesti manager Anneli Simm.


"These are necessary to test the chemical and physical properties of the company's U.S. and Canadaian pharmaceutical products. In the longer term Teligent is planning to conduct product development for various generic medicines in Tallinn," Simm said.


The lab having a total floor area of almost 300 square meters employs a workforce of five now and will hire additionally the same number of specialists with a background in medicine and chemistry when working at full capacity.


The facility also includes administrative space for quality assurance and supply chain employees who oversee the company's third-party contract manufacturing activities around the world.


The New Jersey-based specialty generic pharmaceutical company established its operation in Estonia in 2015, where it has been managing logistics and supply relationships between third-party suppliers and the U.S. and Canadian markets.
