Lithuania wants to export grain to China

BC, Vilnius, 08.07.2016.Print version
Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius told Chinese officials on Thursday that, in addition to milk and beef, Lithuania also wants to export grain to China, informs LETA/BNS.

"The prime minister said that Lithuania was ready to export grain to China and would seek to obtain export permits," Mindaugas Janulionis, the government's spokesman, told BNS after Butkevicius' meeting with officials from China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in Vilnius.

"This marks the start of a dialogue regarding grain. The Chinese said that they were ready to continue talks on the import of the broadest possible range of products," he said.

According to the spokesman, Butkevicius also called on the Chinese officials to accelerate the necessary procedures for Lithuanian dairy companies to launch exports and reminded them that Lithuania was waiting for questionnaires and assessments from China regarding beef exports to the Asian country.

Lithuania received all the necessary documents for dairy product exports to China in mid-April. However, exporters still have to register their company numbers in China and have all export documents approved by China's veterinary authorities.

Rokiskio Suris, Marijampoles Pieno Konservai and Vilkyskiu Pienine are planning to launch dairy product exports to China in the near future.
