The Estonian bus operator Lux Express on April 18th replaced all the buses serving the Tallinn-Tartu route with brand new Scania Irizar i8 buses, introducing a new concept involving a lounge section with 15 seats in the 2+1 arrangement, informs LETA/BNS.

The manager of Lux Express, Hannes Saarpuu, said the price of the ticket will not change for most passengers.

"Nobody will have to pay more, but we will be offering customers the possibility to pay a little more when they feel that they would like a little bit more comfort and privacy still," Saarpuu said in a press release.

The buses of the Lux Express Lounge concept are variants of Scania Irizar i8 made to order for Lux Express. The new buses have altogether 47 seats, including 32 seats in the 2+2 seating arrangement and 15 seats in the 2+1 arrangement in the lounge section. Lux Express obtained the buses for approximately 4 million euros.

The range of the fare on the Tallinn-Tartu route is from 3 to 12 euros for regular seats and 9 to 15 euros for seats in the lounge section, depending on demand and the customer's status in the loyalty program.

New buses will make 18 departures from Tallinn to Tartu daily, with the first departure at 7 a.m. and the last at 9 p.m. There are also 18 departures in the direction from Tartu to Tallinn, with the first departure at 6:30 in the morning and the last at 8 in the evening.

Starting from this week, Lux Express will introduce extra departures in the Tallinn-Tartu service during weekends, meaning that there will be extra buses departing from Tallinn to Tartu at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and from Tartu to Tallinn at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
